These artists’ experiences foreshadow what has turn into a rising development: resorts — typically upscale — all over the world are commissioning artists to create work, or are buying art to differentiate themselves from competitors. In a study released in June, 2007, Rochester, New York (Monroe County) calculated that the attendance and gross sales revenues generated by its arts and cultural organizations had been accountable for a total $199 million annual infusion into its financial system.

There are eight whole sections within the museum: Islamic Artwork, Paintings, Sculptures, Prints and Drawings, Near Eastern Antiquities, Egyptian Antiquities, Greek, Etruscan, and Roman Antiquities, and Decorative Arts. In 2016, Massie was awarded the Sue Hess Maryland Arts Advocate Award by the Maryland Citizens for the Arts.
